About CBF production technology

The development history of the basalt continuous fiber (BCF)  begins in 1923, when Paul Dhe (Paris, France) first discovered the idea of producing fiber from basalt. Since the early 1960s, almost simultaneously, the United States and the USSR began research on the use of basalt fiber, in particular in the military sphere in the production of rockets.

Over time, the United States ceased active research in this area, and the USSR Ministry of Defense contributed to the collection and concentration of further researches in Ukraine, Kiev.

After the collapse of the USSR in 1991, developments in this area were declassified and research was redirected to the use of BCF in the areas of civil engineering. Today in the world there are several industrial plants (Ukraine, Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Ireland, USA), which successfully produce CBF and contribute to the expansion of its application areas, the use of CBF as a raw material in composites is especially popular.

Our engineering solutions are based on technologies developed and patented by our Сhief Еechnologist Mr. Grigory Gorbachev (Ph.D.), who stood at the origins of the BCF creation.

The production technology of BCF on an industrial scale consists of the following stages: raw materials in the form of 10-25 mm fractions are loaded into the feed hopper of a pusher type loader using an automatic monorail loader.

  1. The loader filled with basalt rubble
  2. Melting furnace
  3. Feeder part of the furnace
  4. BCF formation unit
  5. Complex continuous basalt thread

The vibration chute of the loader provides an adjustable portion feed of raw materials for its supply to the smelting zone of the furnace. In the furnace raw material melts, degassing and homogenization going. The homogenized melt enters the furnace feeding part.

From the feeders, the fusion enters to the thread forming units consisting of a set of electrically heated jet and spinneret feeders and through the spinnerets located on the spinneret plate in the bottom of the vessel, flows out in the form of droplets that are mechanically drawn into the fibers using a winding machine.

Elementary fibers, the number of which is equal to the number of spinnerets on the plate of the draw plate feeder, are fed to roll lubricating devices. To them from the supply tank through pipelines oil agent is supplied by gravity.

Formed in a sizing device complex threads through a graphite thread bin are sent to the winders, where they are wound on reels.

SERVICES AND CONSULTING IN CBF PRODUCTION

Specialists of International Basalt Technology LTD will develop and fulfill your demand for the design, construction and commissioning of a plant for the BCF production, or will help to optimize an already operating production facilities.

In our work, we rely on three basic principles: operational reliability of the technological process, optimal selection of equipment according to the desires and possibilities of the investor, implementation within the stipulated time frame. We approach each project individually, take into account all the nuances and create a unique and effective solutions.
